Very Different Portraits

Added this week are two strikingly different portraits, both splendid in their own distinctive ways.

The first is an extremely rare etching from the great Edgar Holloway (1914-2008), one of his series of self portraits entitled ‘Top Hat’, he completed it in 1937 at the age of just 23 and only a handful were ever produced before the plate was destroyed in the 1940’s.

The second portrait could not be much more different, entitled ‘Attesa’ (translated as ‘anticipation’ it is a vibrant oil on canvas by the Italian artist Federica Ravizza (b.1947) which she completed in 2008.
