Arthur Smith 1814 - 1882

£895.00

Oil On Canvas, 1868

'Ramsgate Harbour'

Arthur Smith was an Aberdeen based painter and a number of his works can be found at local museums.  It is rare for a picture to come to market by this artist and this is a particularly fine example of a typical subject matter.

The painting is a view of Ramsgate Harbour in a gale after the watercolour by JMW Turner entitled 'Ramsgate' held in the Tate.

Housed in its original gilt frame an inscription on the stretcher states 'reverse of canvas Arthur Smith - painter, 1868', an old label for Gifford & Son, 187 Union Street, Aberdeen is also present.

Frame size 20" x 29"

Painting size 13" x 22"

Very good condition, canvas re-lined, ready to hang
