Yorkshire-born artist Edgar Holloway was an important figure in the etching revival of the 1930s. Best known for his portraits and self-portraits, he was influenced by Rembrandt’s use of light and dark and by contemporary etchers including Augustus John, Ernest Lumsden and Joseph Webb.
Holloway produced more self-portrait etchings than anyone else and this is an extremely rare and fine example of his work.
Only a handful were printed in 1937 and the plate was destroyed in the late 1940's making this a very desirable etching.
