Edmund Morison Wimperis

£225.00

Edmund Morison Wimperis

1835 - 1900

Original watercolour, signed with initials

Born in Chester Wimperis started his career as a wood engraver and studied under Birket Foster and his early work often showed the painstaking influence of Foster, his later work however is more expansive and less detailed, this landscape is reflective of this period.  It was during this later period that he often painted with his artist friend Thomas Collier and, like Collier and Cox, he became very fond of depicting windswept moorland scenes, again this picture is typical.

He was a member of the SBA from 1870 to 1874 and was elected vice president of the NWS in 1895

Frame size 20 1/4" x 25 1/4"

Painting size 11 1/2" x 16 1/2"
