A beautiful and delicate study in sanguine chalk on laid paper, signed by the artist lower right.
Leon Detroy was a Post-Impressionist painter born in Chinon in 1859. He attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. After meeting Claude Monet he devoted his art to Landscapes but also produced sensitive graphic works, often in chalk, of which this is a very good example.
He was highly regarded by the critics as well as his contemporaries such as Vuillard, Bonnard etc.
