Peter De Wint OWS (1784-1849)
Original sepia toned pencil and watercolour
De Wint was a leading English watercolourist of his generation and this is a very typical scene of the English countryside for which he is famous.
De Wint first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1807 and in 1809 entered the RA Schools. He was elected an Associate of the Old Water Colour Society in 1810 and was made a full member the following year.
This particular painting more than likely is a view of a church in Lincolnshire.
Verso are a number of inscriptions including a Christies stock number which would seem to relate to 168N which was a huge sale of the collection of James Hertz in 1865, a sale which included a number of De Wints amongst other leading artists.
Provenance: Christies / Private collection
Frame size 16" x 19 5/8", painting size 8 1/4" x 12 3/4"
Very good condition, later antique wooden frame (some expected wear), new professional acid free double mount, ready to hang.
